Genetics

Since both CD and T1DM share the same genetic predisposition, characterized by positivity for HLA-DR3, -DQ2, -DR4 and -DQ8, determination of HLA pattern is not useful in identifying T1DM among those at risk of developing CD.[9] Nevertheless, HLA typing can be of some help in T1DM since negativity for DQ2 and DQ8 virtually rules out the possibility of developing CD and therefore can identify those patients who do not need sequential antibody screening.
