Conclusion
Nocardia nova is a rare species of Nocardia. However, it has an aggressive pattern of dissemination, and infected patients have a very high risk of mortality. If left untreated, disseminated nocardiosis has a mortality rate of greater then 85%.[5] Rapid diagnosis and aggressive treatment can result in a favorable outcome, as with our patient.[11] If a patient with disseminated nocardiosis is inadequately treated, there is a high incidence of relapse.[11] Nocardia should be included in the differential diagnosis when evaluating any patient on immunosuppressive therapies with possible opportunistic infections.
