Prognosis

Although there are few published results on epilepsy prognosis in the elderly, the outlook on AEDs is (surprisingly) generally considered good, perhaps better than in younger patients. One review of patients with epilepsy aged over 65 years demonstrated that 64% were seizure-free at 1 year on their first AED and 84% following further drug manipulations.[70]
