A 5-day, short-course fluoroquinolone regimen is at least as effective in clinical resolution and bacteriological cure for patients with AECB as compared with standard therapy. In addition, data suggest that 5-day fluoroquinolone therapy offers beneficial characteristics for the management of AECB, including faster resolution of symptoms, faster rate of recovery, fewer relapses, shorter and fewer hospitalization stays, and prolonged duration between recurrences.
