The scope for the development of novel acne therapies appears promising. Research into acne pathogenesis has clearly demonstrated that acne is a T-cell-mediated condition, and with this in mind, immunomodulatory therapy may form part of the armamentarium against acne in the future. However, for the patient presenting today, currently available treatments can, when prescribed in an appropriate combination, be extremely effective against all grades of acne with excellent physical and psychological outcomes.
