Xanthelasma is a frequently bilateral condition that is usually found in elderly individuals and those with hypercholesterolemia. It presents as a yellow subcutaneous plaque on the eyelids. Since it can be an indication of hypercholesterolemia, patients should be referred for a cholesterol test.
