Three Methods to Obtain a Carpal Tunnel View[5]

  1. Place the ventral part of the forearm on the radiographic cassette and hyperextend the wrist. You may need to angle the x-ray beam towards the elbow, depending on how much the patient can hyperextend the wrist.

  2. Place the palm on the cassette and move the forearm towards the hand to hyperextend the wrist. The x-ray beam is directed towards the hand depending on how much the patient can hyperextend the wrist.

  3. Place the dorsal surface of the wrist over a cushion such that the palm faces up. Place the cassette vertically. Direct the central beam horizontally towards the carpal tunnel.
