Diagnosis of Helicobacter pylori

Several accurate diagnostic tests are available for the detection of H. pylori – each of them with its particular characteristics. Historically, H. pylori infection was diagnosed on biopsy-based methods. In clinical routine these tests remain the most reliable, but they are invasive, expensive, and not always applicable. Therefore, several noninvasive tests have been developed over the last two decades and have become part of clinical practice.
