Limitations of the Study

This study had some limitations. The cross-sectional design may have limited the measurement of pain to one point in time. Further longitudinal studies, using other MS subtypes, are needed to test the effectiveness of medications and self-care activities on pain. Variables not controlled in this study (e.g., specific side effects of medications and type of medications for pain) may have altered the findings. The predominantly Caucasian sample, although reflective of the available populations of women in the study settings, may have limited the generalizability to other ethnic groups of women.
