Future Perspective
As the field of optical imaging evolves we will see better use of optical probes for biopsy of lesions, intraoperative detection of tumor margins and identification of metastatic axillary lymph nodes by optical probe. Breath-test analysis may be able to identify breast cancer cases before anatomical localization of cancer; these cases can be monitored more closely with mammography and MRI for tumor localization. Use of radionuclide agents may be of help in assessing subclinical tumor recurrence.
