Primary Psychotic Disorders

Symptom reduction in chronic late-life psychotic disorders such as very-late-onset schizophrenia-like psychosis can be evidenced with the use of long-term neuroleptic treatment. However, neuroleptics have not been shown to produce an improvement equal to the premorbid level of social adjustment and have limited effect on the development of insight.[19] Despite ongoing medication use, the course often tends to be chronic and the prognosis unfavourable.[19]
