Introduction

SLEEP 2007: the 21st Annual Meeting of the Associated Professional Sleep Societies (APSS), was held in Minneapolis, Minnesota, from June 8 through 14 with approximately 5500 people in attendance. The yearly event is a joint venture of the Sleep Research Society and the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, and it brings together sleep researchers, clinicians, technologists, and industry representatives. As usual, the 2007 program included updates on basic sleep science and the clinical practice of sleep medicine, along with a presentation of the latest advances in evaluating and treating sleep disorders. Among the highlights were invited lectures by individuals who have made major contributions to sleep research.
