Results of Flexible Sigmoidoscopy

The patient underwent flexible sigmoidoscopy, which revealed nodular-appearing mucosa with diffuse erythema and marked edema. The colonic mucosa was friable and bled with biopsy (Figure 1). There was also evidence of large pseudomembranes suggestive of C difficile colitis (Figure 2).
