Introduction

More than 12,000 ophthalmologists congregated in Sao Paulo, Brazil, for the 2006 World Ophthalmology Congress (the renamed International Congress of Ophthalmology). The meeting was convened with the Pan-American Association of Ophthalmology and the Brazilian Council of Ophthalmology. An entire day was devoted to the topic of glaucoma, specifically, such issues as the changing concept of glaucoma, the importance of early detection, and the developing field of neuroprotection.
