Causes of Tinnitus
In addition to the causes of tinnitus already discussed, this condition may be attributed to noise-induced hearing loss, cerumen impaction, ototoxic medications, otic or sinus infections, temporomandibular joint tumors, or head/neck trauma.[9] Some of these causes may also worsen preexisting tinnitus.[11] The pharmacist might ask patients with new cases of tinnitus if they have recently attended a rock concert. Rock band amplifiers can cause tinnitus that persists for 48 hours or longer following the concert.[11]
