Statistical Analysis

Mann-Whitney U test was used to compare patients with controls. The results were expressed as mean values plus/minus standard deviation (SD), and statistical significance was defined as P < .05. The association between the antibody levels to oral anaerobic bacteria and acute-phase reactants (ESR, C-reactive protein [CRP]) was analyzed using the correlation coefficient ( r ). Also, the association between the antibody levels to oral anaerobic bacteria and disease duration and age of patients was analyzed using the correlation coefficient ( r ).
