Author Note
Peter Frishauf led the founders' team that created Medscape in 1995. At the time, he served as CEO of SCP Communications, Inc., the Manhattan-based medical information company that he had started 14 years earlier. He served as Medscape CEO until February 1998 and as chairman of its Executive Committee and a member of its Board of Directors through its IPO until May 2000, when the company merged with MedicaLogic/Medscape, Inc., where he was senior advisor. MedicaLogic sold Medscape to WebMD in December 2001, and in 2002, Peter's formal relationship with the company ended.
The author wishes to thank the original skunks Timothy Fallon; Vincent Keane, RbH; Bill Seitz, Stephen Smith, PA-C; and Gib Veconi for their contributions to this article, and former Medscape Director Esther Dyson for access to her comprehensive files. Thanks to my longtime partner and friend Katharine Rice, former SCP editorial director, for her early review of the manuscript. (At SCP, Ms. Rice hired the editorial, design, and production team that started Medscape, including skunks Stephen Smith and Vincent Keane).
