Gender Differences

Electrocardiographic and electrophysiologic differences between men and women, along with differences in the frequency of certain cardiac arrhythmias, have been documented.[26,27] The mechanisms of these gender differences are unclear, but have been attributed to hormonal effects on modulating ionic channel function,[26,27] shorter QT intervals in adult males,[26] and differences in the electrophysiologic structure of the heart.[27] These gender differences manifest in various ways, as summarized in Table III .
