Which Organisms Are Responsible?

When a person neglects oral hygiene, organisms begin to occupy the tooth surfaces and gingival sulcus. Gram-negative facultative anaerobes such as Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans and gram-negative obligate anaerobes such as Porphyromonas gingivalis are the most common periodontopathogenic species and are thought to be the primary offenders in CVD.[4]
