Method
Focus group interviews have been used to assess the experiences and opinions of husbands and wives of people with MS (Polit, Beck, & Hungler, 2001) with a goal of obtaining "an authentic insight into the participant's experiences" (Burns & Grove, 1999, p. 359). The data from the current study were collected by two doctorally prepared nurse counselors and a senior nursing student research assistant. The university's institutional review board approved the research. Each participant signed a consent form agreeing to participate in the audiotaped focus group.
