Conclusion

Effective collaboration within nursing and with other health care professionals to achieve higher quality outcomes in an increasingly interdependent health care delivery system continues to grow in importance. Collaboration is a complex partnership. It is a process that occurs over time. It is also an outcome, a synthesis of different perspectives, an integrative solution. It is important to remember that conflict is a natural and expected part of collaboration. Conflict provides an opportunity to deepen agreement. The strategic use of conflict resolution skills and goodwill power can be effective in enhancing decision quality and team commitment. This article has offered ten lessons to enhance collaboration. Focusing on the value of collaboration can motivate health care professionals to apply these lessons in their daily practice.
