Limitations of this Systematic Review

This review was aimed at identifying multidimensional pain assessment tools. The systematic review was limited because it focused on pain tools in English-speaking journals. There may be reports of tools in journals that are not included in the 4 databases accessed by the authors. The authors were not able to access conference abstracts in the time available for the fellowship, except when the abstract was referenced in a peer-reviewed journal. There may be unpublished pain assessment tools in use, which may have strong attributes, but were not referenced. Additionally, a search of studies that compared assessment tools against each other was not conducted.
