The purpose of this study was 3-fold and includes the following:

  1. To examine the issues of pain assessment in infants.

  2. To acquire and evaluate all published neonatal pain assessment tools.

  3. To review, compare, and contrast the pain assessment tools specifically for their reported reliability, validity, clinical utility, and feasibility.
