Call for the Evolution of Reproductive Research

Frederick Naftolin of Yale University presented the second President's Award Lecture calling for the evolution of reproductive research into a progressively more interdisciplinary science. In addition to better coordination between traditionally reproductive disciplines, he urged researchers to broaden cooperation with diverse investigative fields in cardiology, neurobiology, behavior, biomechanics and many others. He cautioned that the failure to do so would result in the SGI becoming increasingly less relevant and in researchers in reproductive fields becoming less successful in recruiting new investigators and receiving support.

Comment: These comments emphasize the trend toward greater interdisciplinary research that cuts across traditional institutional and intellectual barriers.
