While the East Coast braced for yet another winter storm, the Annual Clinical Genetics Meeting kicked off in sunny San Diego, on March 13, 2003. The 4-day annual meeting is sponsored by the American College of Medical Genetics and is held in conjunction with the 34th Annual March of Dimes Clinical Genetics Conference.

Before the formal opening of the meeting, the Public Health Genetics special interest group met under the leadership of an interim executive committee. The American College of Medical Genetics (ACMG) is looking specifically at 2 public health genetics issues, namely advances in newborn screening and cystic fibrosis (CF) screening.
