Clinical Course and Outcome
The patient had no resources for liver transplantation, but was adopted by a local foundation that provided the funding. She was listed by a transplant program but developed variceal hemorrhage, refractory encephalopathy, systemic sepsis, and ultimately died while waiting for transplant. During her final hospitalization, she developed severe extrapyramidal symptoms, including chorea and hemiballismus. Autopsy was not performed.
