Another interesting session, led by Michael Socol, MD, Professor at Northwestern University, Chicago, Illinois, and Past President of the Society of Maternal-Fetal Medicine, dealt with current issues in obstetrics. Dr. Socol discussed 6 areas that were of extreme importance in the year 2002 for the practicing obstetrician: (1) vaginal birth after cesarean section (VBAC), (2) fetal pulse oximetry, (3) breech, (4) corticosteroids, (5) prenatal diagnosis, and (6) prevention of preterm delivery.
