Fluoroquinolones generally have very favorable side effect profiles and are associated with few significant drug interactions. However, there are notable differences between individual agents in both types and degrees of adverse effects and drug interactions. Knowledge of these adverse effects and drug interactions and appropriate selection of an agent based on characteristics of the individual patient will help to ensure that the drugs are administered in the safest manner possible.
