Question

Does warfarin sodium (Coumadin) produce livedo reticularis in elderly patients?

Rani Laha

Response from Robert Fox, MD

It is not clear that there is a causal association between warfarin sodium and livedo reticularis. However, patients may be receiving warfarin sodium for several reasons, including "unexplained" or "unrecognized" anticardiolipin antibody syndrome. The anticardiolipin antibody syndrome is associated with livedo reticularis[1] or mixed cryoglobulinemia.[2]
