Is there a relationship between progesterone levels and fibromyositis? If so, are hormonal levels indicated for diagnosis, and is hormone replacement therapy a part of appropriate management?

Response from Lee S. Simon, MD

There is little good evidence about hormone levels and fibromyalgia, and there is even less about the value of hormonal therapy for its treatment. There is no evidence that serum hormone levels are of any use at all for diagnosis.
