Sponsored by the National Osteoporosis Foundation and the International Osteoporosis Foundation, the World Congress on Osteoporosis, held June 15-18, 2000, brought together international experts in osteoporosis to discuss the pathophysiology, risk factors, and new concepts in prevention and treatment of osteoporosis.

Information particularly useful to the practicing orthopaedist fell into the following 2 areas: (1) understanding risk factors to help identify patients who need bone density testing; and (2) up-to-date information on ways to prevent and effectively and safely treat patients at risk.
