Dr Tara Carr, from the University of Arizona, discusses updates in moderate to severe asthma presented at the 2022 American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology (AAAAI) Annual Meeting.

She begins by looking at the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on access to and continuity of care for patients, and the influence of lower socioeconomic status.

This theme was continued in a presentation that highlighted how social disparities and exposure to factors associated with asthma combine to increase the risk for severe disease and exacerbations.

Finally, Dr Carr discusses the latest results from the Severe Asthma Research Program, which were presented at AAAAI 2022. They reveal a range of severe asthma phenotypes that can be used to predict changes in asthma severity over time.
