June 11, 2020

The 2020 American Thoracic Society (ATS) International Conference was postponed this year because of coronavirus-related concerns. While a virtual conference is being planned for later in the year, key abstracts have been shared on the ATS website.

Dr Sanjay Sethi, pulmonary expert at the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at SUNY Buffalo, reviews important and potentially practice-changing abstracts regarding the management of patients with COPD.

Highlights include new data on the use of alpha-1 antitrypsin augmentation and the efficacy of COPD care bundles in the reduction of hospital readmissions. Dr Sethi also reports on the use of bronchial rheoplasty procedures to reduce symptoms, as well as on several new therapies in the pipeline.
