Answer

Pastor- Villaescusa et al conducted a randomized, prospective, double-blind, placebo-controlled, multicenter trial to determine the effects of oral metformin on 140 obese children. The study reported that in prepubertal children, metformin decreased the BMI z score vs the placebo (−0.8 vs −0.6) and also improved inflammatory and cardiovascular-related obesity parameters. However, the effects were not seen in pubertal children. Further study is needed to investigate if the difference is related to a dosing issue. [57, 58]
