Answer

Answer

After IPAA procedures, patients are treated as with any bowel procedure. Their diet is changed as bowel function returns, and they are weaned from steroid use. At 6-12 weeks, diverting ileostomies are evaluated for closure. This evaluation usually involves contrast-enhanced imaging of the pouch to assess healing. Once the ostomy is taken down, stool frequency is evaluated, and the need for bulk-forming agents or motility agents is determined.
