In addition, numerous different conditions can cause colitis, each of which has its own pathophysiology. These include the following:

  • Allergic colitis

  • Pseudomembranous colitis

  • Infectious colitis (bacterial, parasitic, or viral)

  • Ischemic colitis

  • Colitis secondary to immune deficiency disorders
