The most commonly affected group includes adult males aged 30-49 years, although all age groups are at risk. In one case series, the mean patient age was 41 years. [26] Younger children have less adaptive behavioral reaction to cold stress; therefore, they have a greater risk of frostbite. Recent US military data indicate a decreasing rate of cold-related injuries in general with increasing age. However, this data set did not specifically address an association of age with frostbite.
