Answer

Answer

For hypothyroid patients, start levothyroxine (about 1.7 mcg/kg/d). Check their thyrotropin level in approximately 4-6 weeks, and adjust the dosage appropriately. Patients who are to receive postoperative radioiodine scanning must stop taking levothyroxine before the procedure. Consider assistance from an endocrinologist during this period to ensure appropriate monitoring (eg, of renal insufficiency due to hypothyroidism).
