What are the contraindications to surgical drainage of deep neck infections?

No absolute contraindications to surgical drainage of deep neck space infections exist. However, for patients experiencing airway compromise from the infection, the need to establish a safe airway takes priority and should be addressed before initiating any other surgical procedures. Once the airway has been secured, the surgical drainage procedure can be performed.
