In chronic acetaminophen toxicity, the role of fasting, reduced glutathione stores, and enhanced metabolism remains unclear. Risk factors for chronic acetaminophen toxicity include the following [19] :

  • Repeated administration of high doses
  • Repeated administration of proper doses at shortened time intervals
  • Fever
  • Poor oral intake
  • Young age (as due to caregiver mismanagement)
