In 2019, the National Poisoning Data System (NPDS) of the American Association of Poison Control Centers (AAPCC) reported 8,039 single exposures to heavy metals. Of those exposures, 2497 were in children younger than 6 years, and 3534 were in patients older than 19 years. [14]
