Other sequelae that may be observed with intravenous drug use include the following:

  • HIV infection
  • Thrombophlebitis
  • Cellulitis
  • Abscesses
  • Viral and talc-induced hepatitis
  • Subacute bacterial endocarditis (SBE)
  • Foreign-particle pulmonary emboli
  • Tetanus
  • Malaria
  • Cotton fever
