The ascites index, which is estimated with basic ultrasound equipment, is defined as the sum total of ascites extent in all four external quadrants of the abdomen. It appears to be a promising tool for estimating and monitoring ascites following paracentesis as reported in ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome. [19]
