Answer

Bleeding may occur, and resolution is as follows:

  • Local - Usually responds to direct pressure

  • Hemothorax (lung vs intercostal artery injury) - Might require thoracotomy if it does not resolve spontaneously

  • Hemoperitoneum (liver or spleen injury) requires emergent laparotomy.
