Complications include the following:

  • Esophageal intubation

  • Iatrogenic induction of an obstructive airway

  • Right mainstem intubation

  • Dental trauma

  • Postintubation pneumonia

  • Vocal cord avulsion

  • Failure to intubate

  • Hypotension

  • Aspiration
