Other causes include the following:

  • Unknown agents, especially in developing countries

  • Ischemic colitis

  • Ulcerative colitis

  • Crohn disease

  • Carcinoid tumor or vasoactive intestinal peptide tumor (VIPoma)

  • Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) 

  • Dumping or short bowel syndrome

  • Radiation or chemotherapy
