What are oral regimens used for the treatment of urinary tract infection (UTI) during pregnancy?

Oral antibiotics are the treatment of choice for asymptomatic bacteriuria and cystitis. Appropriate oral regimens include the following:

  • Cephalexin 500 mg 4 times daily
  • Ampicillin 500 mg 4 times daily
  • Nitrofurantoin 100 mg twice daily
  • Sulfisoxazole 1 g 4 times daily
