Urine culture is the standard method for evaluating for urinary tract infection (UTI) during pregnancy. Indications for performing a urine culture include the following:

  • Recurrent UTI

  • Pyelonephritis

  • Failure to respond to initial treatment regimens

  • History of recent instrumentation

  • Hospital admission
