The following are complications associated with jugular puncture:

  • Pneumothorax (incidence very low with ultrasonographic guidance) [105]

  • Access site thrombosis (2%)

  • Persistent bleeding from insertion site

  • Pulmonary embolism (PE) (if passage was through a thrombosed vein)
