Risk factors include increased age; male sex; smoking; cadmium, benzene, trichloroethylene, and asbestos exposure; excessive weight; chronic dialysis use; and several genetic syndromes (familial RCC, hereditary papillary RCC, von Hippel-Lindau syndrome, and tuberous sclerosis). [6, 7]
